Macau's 24th Sino-Luso International Medical Forum will host PROMPT (Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training) lectures and workshops in Macau on 17thto 19th April, 2015

Professor Manson Fok, Sino-Luso’ s President, comments, “This is a wonderful opportunity to have such a high quality team of facilitators assist us in this process and ultimately to prevent harm and improve clinical outcomes. PROMPT is great training program that we are here to support and to implement in Macau. The benefits of the PROMPT model is to reduce harm to both mothers and babies”

The PROMPT program has been running successfully in the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. It was developed in the UK by Obstetrician Professor Tim Draycott in 2008. This internationally renowned forum was presented in Macau at the 9th Sino-Luso forum in 2012 to much applause by our city’s maternity providers.

This forum is unique and will help support Macau’s OBGYN professionals (doctors, nurses, anesthetists and midwives) in a multidisciplinary manner. A group of six certified facilitators from Hong Kong will form this core training unit, including Professor TY Leung, Professor Terrence Lao and Associate Professor Kim Khwa from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Three other experts in the OBGYN field include Dr. Chan Wan Pang, Dr. Lau Wai Lam, and Dr. Yam Man Ching.

They are working together to improve awareness and facilitate the distribution of obstetric emergencies training as widely as possible. All participating medical professionals will be trained in real life scenarios with some of the latest high fidelity birthing simulators in the field.

Along with Portuguese expert Dr. Vicente Chantre, an impressive line-up of world experts will be present to explore the conference themes and their international partnerships. We extend a warm welcome to the President of PMA, Dr. Minerva Calimag, and to the governess of PMA, Dr. Malou Monteverde, as well as to the Dean of Davao Medical School Foundation, Dr. Patronilo Basa to join us at what will again be an informative and clinically significant event.

Professor Manson Fok explains, ¨This will certainly continue our valuable project. We all know that with proper training of our local doctors and nurses reduce the possibilities of fewer tragic deaths to mothers. For instance, primary postpartum hemorrhaging and breech birth are causes of maternal mortality and they are highly preventable through skilled care. We hope that we can contribute what we can in the important area of women’s health in Macau”

These exciting scientific programs of the 24th Sino-Luso International Medical Forum event is chaired by the Faculty of Health Sciences, Macau University of Science and Technology and organized by the Macau Healthcare Management and Promotion Association (MHMPA). It is also supported by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China, The Gusi Peace Prize International as well as a list of outstanding healthcare organizations and Portuguese speaking associations here in Macau.
