Professor Wong Io Nam highlighted the competitiveness in Macau's medical employment market, encouraging students to make the most of clinical internship opportunities to better prepare for their future careers. He urged students to broaden their horizons, explore internship opportunities in Macau, the Greater Bay Area, and beyond, and actively engage in clinical development and medical research projects to tackle challenges head-on.
Professor Laurence Lok expressed that students studying the "Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery" at the Faculty of Medicine of MUST should enjoy the learning process and strive to become good doctors. He encouraged students to work hard in their studies, take care of themselves, maintain a healthy growth process, provide excellent care to patients, and excel in their work to become exemplary doctors.
Professor Daniel Baptista-hon emphasized the importance of communication between doctors and patients during the seminar. He expressed that if patients do not understand a doctor's actions, it can affect their attitude towards cooperation. Professor Daniel Baptista-hon then quoted a statement by the Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw, who once said, "The biggest problem with communication is the illusion that it has taken place." Merely standing up and saying something, or reading something, or making some sounds with your mouth does not mean that communication has been successful. He hoped that students would remember this very important concept.
Professor Nivritti Gajanan Patil pointed out the uniqueness of students studying "Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery," where the teaching language is English, while the communication language is the patients' language (Cantonese/Portuguese). He encouraged students to take pride in becoming future doctors from the Macau University of Science and Technology School of Medicine, sharing a quote, "Wherever you go, there is always room at the top. Strive for the top, and you will succeed."
The torch-passing ceremony of "Mastery of Virtue and Proficiency, The Flame of Legacy" continues the broad-minded aspiration of doctors to "care for the world," ensuring the perpetuation of skills and virtues from generation to generation. |
Following the seminar, the guests and students participated in the torch-passing ceremony of "Mastery of Virtue and Proficiency, The Flame of Legacy," symbolizing the expectation for new students to inherit the highest standards of medical ethics, fulfill the role and responsibilities of a doctor throughout their lives, and uphold the high level of professionalism and moral character expected by society. The ceremony highlighted that medical education is not only about personal career development but also about safeguarding the well-being of patients, carrying the mission of societal trust and human welfare. It showcased the School of Medicine's commitment to perpetuating the tradition of cultivating doctors with both skills and virtues.
