Research at the Faculty of Medicine
The Faculty of Medicine (FMD) at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) was established in 2019 and is the only institution in Macau offering a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program. Academic excellence in research is a fundamental aspect for any medical school, as it not only attracts top students and faculty but also secures international recognition, aiming to become a leading medical school in the region. The FMD has already assembled a team of distinguished academics at the professorial level who are conducting groundbreaking research. Faculty members have been successful in securing significant funding from the FDCT, NSFC and MOST, further enhancing the school's research capabilities.
The FMD's research spans a broad spectrum, including fields such as artificial intelligence, COVID-19, cancer research, neuroscience, immunology, ophthalmology, lipid disorders, congenital developmental disorders, nanoparticle research and food science. These programs employ cutting-edge methodologies like machine learning, high-resolution imaging, organoid cultures, proximity ligation, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and nanoparticle design.
The faculty is committed to translational research and education, focusing on applying discoveries, transferring knowledge, and driving innovation to improve disease understanding, treatment and health maintenance. Our shared vision is to cultivate a dynamic community where research and teaching are equally esteemed, fostering the development of the next generation of clinical and non-clinical academics. We are dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary activities, encouraging collaboration across divisions and institutions, as well as partnering with local and regional health authorities.
