FH 1406041

The 19th Sino-Luso International Medical Forum is proud to host the eminent Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the University of Aberdeen.

This special forum on May 30-31st will feature original lectures and a special keynote symposium on practical skills in surgery education.

Dr. Manson Fok, the president of the Sino-Luso International Medical Forum remarked, “It is a privilege to host such an impressive delegation of surgical experts to Macau. The links between the Royal College of Edinburgh and the region in healthcare trainings span many decades. In Macau, our discussion will be on medical education and surgical training. It is our ambition to assist Macau in developing the human resources necessary to deliver first class healthcare to our citizens.”

Dr. Fok, who is also Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), continued, “These high quality certificate courses will provide the opportunity to strengthen co-operation in the important areas of clinical practice and to improve outcomes for our patients. This is also an important step for a deeper and wider healthcare partnerships between one of the world’s oldest surgical corporation and healthcare providers in Macau.”

This exciting program looks at the relationship between human factors and safer surgical practice and explores team dynamics. World-renowned facilitators will lead our doctors and nurses through a series of interactive exercises to help the trainees to reflect on their own performance and that of the operative team they work with.

One of the presenters coming to Macau from the UK, Prof. George G Youngson, CBE and also the Chairman of The Joint Revalidation Committee of the UK surgical college remarked, “These frameworks can help participants develop the knowledge and skills to improve their performance in the operating theatre in relation to communication and teamwork especially in assisting in the decision making, leadership and situational awareness.”

Other key lecturers presenting include Prof. Craig Mcilhenny, the Surgical Director of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and Prof. Simon Paterson Brown, a senior surgeon at the Royal College. Macau presenters include Prof. Edward Lai, the surgical department chief of the University Hospital, MUST, and Dr. Chan Wai Sin, the Deputy Director of Macau Health Bureau. A special S.O.S. workshop will also be held in the University of Science and Technology on the 31st May.

Over 200 medical professionals from Macau, Hong Kong, and the Chinese mainland will attend this 19th series of the Sino-Luso International Medical Forum.

This further promotes the responsibility of medical and surgical skills training in Macau. Our mission is to create a regional hub that operates out of Macau as a unique platform.

The academic programs of this forum will be chaired by the Faculty of Health Sciences, (MUST) and organized by the Macau Healthcare Management and Promotion Association (MHMPA).

The Sino-Luso International Medical Forums are supported by the new National Health and Family Planning Commission, PRC (Formerly the Ministry of Health).
