Sino-Luso International Medical Forum (Series Thirty-Five): Toxicology Forum - Protect Communities and Continue Safe Operations

This amazing weekend’s events for Macau’s frontline medical professionals in public and private hospitals is comprised of distinguished keynote speakers and hands on workshops focusing on the latest research. This cutting-edge information is intended to stimulate discussion and debate about current issues affecting toxicology internationally.

The President of the forum, Prof Manson Fok, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), comments, “As a follow up to the Clinical Toxicology forums held at Sino-Luso in both in 2013 and 2014, this upcoming forum combines new scientific sessions and workshops for our Macau doctors and nurses.”

Prof. Fok continues, “We assure our participants with a promising forum experience with the best international speaker line up for our three full days exciting and stimulating programs. This 35th forum is proud to present high quality doctors and stimulate regional and global discussions of toxicology.

One such experienced toxicologist, Prof. Lau Fei Lung, Chairman of Clinical Toxicology Board, Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine will lead a strong medical team from Hong Kong. Prof. Lau comments, “We are excited to come over to Macau in 2017. There will be some remarkable topics presented by some of the best medical experts from Taipei. We are very much looking forward to meet and collaborate with them during this event.”

Prof Lau will be presenting a brand-new paper at this forum, a timely topic amongst the youth titled “Drug and Drunk Driving - Greater China Perspective.”

Dr. Billy Chan, Vice President of the forum further comments, “Our aim is to bring good quality workshops and experts to discuss the latest scientific breakthroughs, and explore advanced technologies. This forum will bring together emergency doctors and toxicology experts who will highlight future opportunities for new treatments.”

A team of experts from Hong Kong and Taipei will run quality workshops in the area of Cholinergic Syndrome, Anticholinergic Syndrome, Sympathomimetic Syndrome & Opioid Intoxication). Macau’s frontline medical providers will gain insights in a wide range of current toxicological topics.

We are raising concern over the procedures conducted regionally with botox and its related side effects after four cases of botulism (which concerned women getting shots in mainland China) were informed to health authorities within the space of a single week last year.

This current topic, “Iatrogenic Botulism Outbreak in Hong Kong” will be delivered by an expert from Hong Kong, Prof. Tse Man Li and the President of Hong Kong Society of Clinical Toxicology. Moreover, Dr. Chan Yiu Cheung will be presenting his latest findings in “Electronic Cigarette - An Update From a Toxicologist Perspective”.

A strong team of medical educators from Taipei will also present in this forum. They include, Dr. Chen Chun-kuei, who will talk about “From Aphrodisiacs to Death”, an interesting topic not to be missed. We are also joined by two other experts from the Department of Emergency Medicine, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital based in Taipei. They are Dr. Chen Hsien-yi and Dr. Yu Jiun-hao.
