Ms. Chi Ieong Ao, Director of Medical Services to the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, emphasized that the event specifically focused on fatty liver and breast-related screenings due to the higher prevalence of these conditions in Macau and Southern China, largely attributed to modern diets and irregular lifestyles. “We hope to enhance public health awareness through this Health Outreach, promoting the goals of early prevention and early treatment,” she stated. She also revealed plans to increase the frequency of such community health services to three times annually and looks forward to continued collaboration with the MUST Faculty of Medicine to engage more Community Health Ambassadors in providing professional medical resources.

Professor Manson Fok, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, commended the Health Outreach highly. He noted that the Faculty not only focuses on the comprehensive professional growth and social awareness of its students but also utilizes diverse activities such as community health services and cross-regional medical assistance programs. These initiatives allow students to accumulate valuable practical case experience while nurturing their sense of social responsibility. “The first cohort of our graduates has demonstrated excellent performance during their hospital internships. Moving forward, we will deepen our cooperation with medical institutions in the Greater Bay Area to build more practical platforms for our students, enabling outstanding Community Health Ambassadors to serve on the ground”, he mentioned.
Many participating residents expressed their gratitude for the event, stating that it not only helped them understand their own health status but also encouraged everyone to prioritize health management. The MUST Faculty of Medicine plans to organize more community activities in the future, advocates for public participation in proactive health management, undergo early screenings and safeguard their well-being.
