2026/10/28

Graduates from the inaugural Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) cohort (Class of 2025) at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) have successfully passed the final internship assessment conducted by the Health Bureau of the Macau SAR on October 21, 2026. The outstanding pass rate of almost nine in ten is well above average. These young homegrown doctors are set to obtain their licenses to practice medicine in Macau SAR.

The achievement follows the graduation of MUST’s first and second MBBS cohort in 2025 and 2026, a milestone for medical education in Macau. Our graduates have since pursued pathways to medical registration in Macau SAR, Hong Kong SAR, and Portugal. The success of our first cohort reflects both their sustained hard work and a program designed to prepare students for the demands of clinical practice. The combination of English-medium teaching, extensive clinical exposure, and a strong emphasis on communication skills provide a particularly valuable foundation for the internship environment in Macau.

As the first (and currently only) MBBS program in Macau, our curriculum integrates biomedical knowledge, clinical reasoning, practical skills and professional values. Teaching in English equips students to engage confidently with international medical literature and terminology, supporting their continued learning throughout clinical training and professional practice. This academic foundation is complemented by rich clinical exposure in Macau SAR and the Greater Bay Area. Through placements at major partner hospitals and clinical teaching bases, students encounter a broad range of patients, conditions and approaches to care. This is supported by a longitudinal focus on communication, where students learn to explain medical information clearly, listen attentively, respond sensitively to patients and families, and work effectively with healthcare colleagues.

Professor Manson Fok, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, said: “We are immensely proud of our first MBBS graduates. Their success reflects their hard work and perseverance, supported by the dedication of our faculty members, clinical tutors and partner institutions. As they enter medical practice, we look forward to seeing them contribute their skills and compassion to the communities they serve and help strengthen Macau’s healthcare workforce.”

Professor Niv Patil, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, said: “Our combination of English-medium teaching, rich clinical exposure across the Greater Bay Area and a strong emphasis on communication skills prepares students well for the internship environment in Macau. Together with our graduates’ commitment and determination, this integrated preparation has been a major contributor to their success. We will continue to build on this foundation to prepare future doctors for Macau’s evolving healthcare needs.”
