Virtual Reality Simulation Based Education in Ultrasound Practice Training

This 1-day workshop was chaired by the Macau University of Science and Technology: Faculty of Health Sciences on the 25th January 2014 in the Center of Excellence for Medical Professional Development of MUST.

Advances in computer technology, hardware and software have made ultrasound a diagnostic imaging technique of choice in certain areas of medicine or specialties such as Obstetrics and Gynecology, Echocardiography, eFAST and Transabdominal scanning, etc. Faculty of Health Sciences, MUST has incorporated virtual reality simulation-based training into many new courses in 2014. Deploying the latest Scan Trainer and U/S Mentor to teach medical professionals is an effective way to improve their skills without compromising patient care and safety. This introductory workshop will showcase these advanced simulation-based training systems. They can be valuable tools to improve medical professionals’ knowledge, dexterity and confidence for performing some of the common ultrasound-guided procedures.

Three overseas keynote speakers and instructors are being invited to be the lecturers. They are Dr. Saba Salman, Sonographer/ Medical Imaging Technologist, Royal Perth Hospital, Australia; Mr. Ori Dotan, Simbionix, Medical Simulation Specialist, Israel; Dr. Ross Horley, Adjunct Lecturer, Simulation Centre Director, School of Medicine, University of Notre Dame, Australia.
