Macau University of Science and Technology Celebrates Graduation of Historic First Cohort of MBBS Students

June 10, 2025 – The Faculty of Medicine of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) held a grand graduation ceremony at University Hall D to honor its Class of 2025. The event marked a historic milestone as the university, and Macau, celebrated its first-ever cohort of 37 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) graduates, signifying the successful completion of Macau’s first locally trained Western medical undergraduate program.

Since its establishment in 2019. MUST’s Faculty of Medicine – the first and only institution in Macau offering undergraduate programs in medicine, pharmacy, and food and nutritional sciences – has been committed to cultivating highly skilled healthcare professionals and advancing the region’s medical and health sectors.

The ceremony commenced with the national anthem, attended by over 400 faculty members, students, families, and distinguished guests. Presiding over the event were MUST Vice President Prof. Kwong Hang Tam, Associate Vice President and Dean of the School of Pharmacy Prof. Yizhun Zhu, and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Manson Fok. The ceremony drew prominent figures from Macau’s government, medical institutions, and academia. Their presence underscored the broad societal support for MUST’s medical education initiatives. Through this ceremony, MUST aimed to showcase its achievements in medical training and inspire more students to pursue careers in healthcare, contributing to the development of Macau and the Greater Bay Area.

In his address, Prof. Fok emphasized, “The essence of medicine lies in applying expertise to alleviate suffering. Wherever your career takes you, may you uphold compassion and dedicate yourselves to public health and community care.” He expressed high expectations for the graduates and wished them outstanding success in their future endeavors.
