He also stressed the importance of integrating humanistic care into clinical practice and medical decision-making, because of the trust and heavy responsibilities entrusted to them by patients and society.
Addressing the trends of population aging, the rising demand for cross-border medical services, and the rapid development of the big health industry, Dean Fok also pointed out that Macao’s medical system is welcoming new opportunities and challenges. As a vital base for nurturing local medical talents, the MUST Faculty of Medicine shoulders the mission of cultivating professionals equipped with an international outlook, professional competence, and a sense of social responsibility, striving to inject new momentum into regional medical development. Ms. Eindray Mhu Khin, a first-year scholarship recipient, spoke on behalf of her MBBS cohort. She is excited that her peers have come from all over the world to Macao—a city where Chinese and Western cultures blend—to embark on their medical studies with a shared ideal of safeguarding life. She also pointed out that the white coat not only symbolizes the pursuit of professional excellence but also carries the heavy trust bestowed by society, inspiring everyone to aspire to become medical professionals equipped with both professional competence and humanistic care. Students taking the oath led by Dean Fok
Subsequently, witnessed by internal and external guests, teachers, family members, and friends, the freshmen donned their white coats and led by Dean Fok, they solemnly recited the Oath of Geneva in English. As the cornerstone of modern medical professionalism, the Oath of Geneva emphasizes respecting patient autonomy, the principles of beneficence and non-maleficence, fairness and justice, as well as integrity, humility, and empathy. Through this, the 8th cohort of MBBS students solemnly pledged to take patient welfare as their ultimate guide, abide by professional ethics, respect the dignity of life, and officially set sail on their noble medical journey of safeguarding life and health.

Closing remarks by Vice President Paul Kwong-Hang Tam
The ceremony concluded with closing remarks delivered by Chair Professor Paul Kwong-Hang Tam, Vice President of MUST. Using football as a metaphor, he encouraged students to value teamwork, mutual trust and support. Drawing on his own experience in pediatric medicine and education, Vice President Tam advised students that while striving to refine their clinical skills, they must never overlook the true feelings and needs of patients. He also noted that both confidence and bewilderment are parts of growth and learning, encouraging everyone to maintain curiosity, dare to ask questions, and continuously improve through reflection and ongoing learning. Finally, he expressed gratitude to the parents and faculty for their dedication, wishing the students mutual support and joint growth on their future medical journey while always keeping their original aspirations of entering the medical profession in mind.
As the first medical school in Macao, the MUST Faculty of Medicine has been committed to cultivating medical talents with professional literacy and an international vision since its establishment. The inaugural cohort of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme graduated successfully in 2025, marking a new milestone in Macao's local undergraduate medical education in Western medicine. Since then, graduates have continued to achieve remarkable success in their professional development, with some successfully passing the Hong Kong Licensing Examination. In 2026, the second cohort of graduates achieved a 100% pass rate in the written portion of Macao’s Professional Qualification Examination for Doctors, fully demonstrating the faculty's educational achievements and talent-cultivation strength. Looking ahead, the Faculty of Medicine will continue to nurture a new generation of medical professionals equipped with professional competence, humanistic care, and an international perspective, contributing to the development of healthcare in Macao, the Greater Bay Area, and the nation.
