Sino-Luso International Medical Forum (Series 42)

The 42nd Sino-Luso International Medical Forum in Macao from 18th – 20th May will be hosting special training courses titled “Cardiology and Oncology: Challenges and New Frontiers.” Designed to enhance Macao’s frontline medical professionals in public and private hospitals, this 42nd Sino-Luso International Medical Forum is comprised of distinguished keynote speakers and hands on workshops focusing on the latest research. This cutting-edge information is intended to stimulate discussions in the area of the latest and greatest in cardiovascular and oncology science, advanced clinical skills and innovations.

The President of the Sino-Luso International Medical Forum and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), Prof Manson Fok comments, “Our forum continues to be the place to come absorb the latest medical science and integrate key information into clinical practices for Macao. We are here once again partnering with the best Portuguese and Chinese institutes to bring together the best medical and surgical professionals and to connect with the global medical community. This upcoming forum combines amazing scientific symposium sessions and workshops for our Macao doctors and nurses.”

Vice President of the Sino-Luso International Medical Forum, Dr. Billy Chan, comments, “We assure our participants a promising medical education experience with the best international speaker line up. Our three full days exciting and stimulating programs, particularly in cancer treatment therapy and latest T-cell and gene therapy for cancer, are some of the latest breakthrough therapy designations and approaches in oncology drug development. They shift the treatment paradigms for prostate, and bladder cancer, etc.”

One such experienced cardiologist is Prof. Shu Zhang, a Professor of Cardiology at the National Center of Cardiovascular Diseases in Fuwai Hospital in Beijing. Prof. Zhang comments, “We are excited to come over to Macao in May. There will be some remarkable topics presented by some of the best medical experts from the mainland and Portugal. We are very much looking forward to meet and collaborate with them during this event.”

Cardiology expert Prof Jinglin Xia is the Professor of Oncology at the Zhongshan Hospital in Fudan University at Shanghai, will be presenting a brand-new and timely paper at this forum titled, “Interventional Therapy on Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Vascular Thrombus”

Another expert from Fudan University, Prof. Xiangdong Wang, the Director of Shanghai Institute of Clinical Bioinformatics, will attend this forum and present the latest findings titled, “Diagnosis and Treatment on Heterogenetic Tumor.”

Our Portuguese expert, Dr. Daniel Alvarenga, a specialist in Anatomic Pathology at University of Sao Paulo, will present a timely topic titled, “Oncology of Uterus and HPV”.

Dr. José Manuel Esteves, the former Clinical Director of Hospital Casimiro da Silva Marques, will talk about his latest research in oncology surgery of head and neck. A good friend of our forum, Dr. Luis Sousa, a senior Member of Portuguese Medical College of Surgery & Portuguese Society of Senology, will speak about the latest topic, Magnetic Guidance in Breast Cancer Surgery.

A strong team of medical educators from Hong Kong SAR will also present in this forum. They include, Prof. Niv Patil, whose talk is titled, “Would Surgery become Adjuvant Therapy to Oncology in the future?”. It is an interesting topic not to be missed. We are also joined by three other experts from Avalon Genomics, Dr. Nancy Tsui, an expert in genomic studies who has published more than 40 scientific publications, including those in Nature Medicine, Blood and PNAS.

There will be an Episiotomy Repairing hands-on workshop conducted by Ms. Wing Yi Wa, a nursing expert from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Joined by Ms. Wong Kit-wah a Midwife Consultant in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Prince of Wales Hospital at Hong Kong Hospital Authority.

This event is supported by the new National Health Commission (Formerly the Ministry of Health of PRC), 2.6 million-member Chinese Medical Doctors Association, as well as a list of outstanding healthcare organizations and Portuguese speaking associations in Macao SAR.
