Sino-Luso International Medical Forum (Series 43)

The 43rd Sino-Luso International Medical Forum will be hosting its’ largest series of medical education training symposiums and workshops in Beijing and Macao from 31st May to 7th June 2018. Focusing on Olympic and sports medicine, the forum is hosting doctors from Angola, Australia, Cape Verde, Macau, Mozambique, and Portugal in its largest contingency to date with medical experts from the Portuguese-speaking world.

Two Chinese health officials will be joined in Beijing Dr. He Zhaohua, Deputy Director of International Cooperation of the National Health Commission (formerly Ministry of Health), and Dr. Zhang Junhau, Director of Health Human Resources Center of the National Health Commission. During the event, they will witness the inauguration of a National Trauma Center at Peking University. At this special opening Peking University People’s Hospital President, Professor Jian Baoguo will confer Professor Manson Fok as the honorary president of the National Trauma Center.

Comments Professor Manson Fok, President of the Sino-Luso International Medical Forums, “We began our Macau and Portuguese-speaking doctor training with Chinese colleagues seven years ago this May. In that time, we’ve trained over 6,000 frontline healthcare workers in Macau SAR and many other Portuguese speaking countries. With our colleagues in Beijing, we will be truly elevating international conversations in sports medicine. China went through a major period of medical training and sports training for the 2008 Olympics and continues to advance sports medicine with the latest medical education and scientific techniques.”

Prof. Fok adds, “We are honoured to be serving Macao SAR and China with this special forum, and hope it adds to the greater body of medical understanding and improves the quality of athletes and the public writ large.”

Dr. Billy Chan, Vice-President of the Sino-Luso International Medical Forum and is also the Director for the Centre of Excellence for Medical Professional Development at the Faculty of Health Sciences at MUST, says, “We’re honored to be hosting so many doctors and friends from the Portuguese speaking world in Beijing and Macao SAR. In 2015, we brought many Portuguese speaking doctors to Beijing, then in 2016 we brought many Chinese and Portuguese speaking doctors to Portugal, to City of Oporto. This is by far our biggest delegation of Portuguese speaking doctors and friends, and we’re very excited.”

From Angola, they are proud to feature Dr. Maria Stella Soares Francisco Cristiano, a specialist in sports medicine accredited by Portugal Medical Board since 2001. She has been the Medical Commission Coordinator in the Angola Olympic Committee since 2006, and also the council member of direction board in Angola Women and Sport Association.

From Cape Verde, the delegation features Dr. Humberto Évora, a graduate of medicine from Lisbon, Portugal and former medical staff of the Macau Government Hospital and medical Chief of Macau Sports Medicine Center. He was the Chief Medical Doctor of Cabo Verde Olympic Delegation, participating in Olympic Games at: Beijing (2008), London (2012) and Rio de Janeiro (2016). He will also be preparing for 2020.

Also from Cape Verde, Dr. Ludmila Dos Santos Miranda is a graduate of the Escola Latino Americana De Medicina at Havana in Cuba. She is now working with the International Olympic Committee at Mindelo in Cape Verde.

Mozambique is represented by Dr. Costa Fabio, an assistant physician at the Centro de MedicinaSportiva do Zimpeto at INADE. He is also the General Clinical Physician in the Service of Bank of Socorros at General Hospital Jose Macamo, in the Directorate of Health of the City in Mozambique. He is the instructor of Basic Course in Sports Medicine at the Comunidade Países Língua Portuguesa (CPLP), organized by the National Sports Institute (INADE) in partnership with the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth in Maputo of Mozambique.

From Portugal, Dr. Gerson Melo is currently the Sports Coordinator at the Comunidade Países Língua Portuguesa (CPLP) at Lisbon in Portugal. Apart from Prof. Fok and Dr. Chan from Macao, friends of the forum from Macao SAR include Mr. Carlos Lobo, a noted Angolan lawyer and President and Founder of Chamber of Commerce of Angola in Macao (CCAMO).

Dr. Chan, who is also an Honorary Consultant at Peking University People's Hospital in Beijing adds, “With great doctors and solid connections from Macao, the Portuguese-speaking world, and Mainland China, we’re really expecting an amazing forum to celebrate our seven years of hard work.”

The 43rd Sino-Luso International Medical Forum begins with Peking University People’s hospital tours on 1 June, followed by two days of symposiums, an international trauma conference and 7th Anniversary Dinner event. It returns to Macau for hospital tours on 5th June, with disaster management workshops through 7th June.
