    Doctoral Degree Program in Food and Drug Administration is an important component of the pharmacy discipline. It is an interdisciplinary field that integrates pharmacy, food science, and social sciences. The aim is to ensure the quality of medicines and food through management and regulation of pharmaceutical affairs and food supervision, as well as by managing relevant stakeholders. This helps promote rational use of medicines, ensure food safety, improve people's health, and contribute to the sustainable development of the pharmaceutical sector.

Study Plan

I. Aims

This program aims to develop senior professionals with multidisciplinary expertise in pharmacy, food science, and regulatory management. Career pathways include roles in: Regulatory bodies (e.g., food safety bureaus, pharmaceutical supervision); Healthcare policy and economic management (e.g., insurance and medical research); Private sector innovation (e.g., product development, quality assurance, and compliance); Academic and research institutions.


II. Admission Requirements

Master degree with related professional backgrounds in medical sciences, food and nutrition, public health, management, or law. English grades (IELTS, or TOEFL, or College English CET-4 and CET-6) are required for admission.


III. Research Directions

There are different research directions in this program, including Pharmacy Administration, Pharmacoeconomics, Pharmacy Law, Pharmaceutical Patent Protection, Ethics in Pharmacy and Business, International Pharmaceutical Trade, Food Safety Regulations and Standards, Regulation of Food Imports and Exports and Food Safety Risk Assessment and Quality Management.

Degree Requirements

1. The course requirements consist of 24 compulsory credits listed in Table 1 and 6 elective credits listed in Table 2. Only students who pass the course assessments will obtain the corresponding credits. Together with 18 credits for the doctoral dissertation, a total of 48 credits are required for graduation. 2. Course schedule: Classes are delivered in an intensive format, with each course taught intensively over 3-4 days (including Saturdays and Sundays). 3. After completing the required credits, students must prepare a dissertation proposal report and complete a proposal defense. Only after passing the proposal defense may students proceed with the research and writing of the doctoral dissertation. 4. Each student must conduct systematic and in-depth scientific research and practical training under the guidance of their supervisor, completing a dissertation with original insights and both theoretical and practical value. 5. Generally, in order to apply for the dissertation defense, each student must publish at least one academic paper as the first author or co-first author, meeting one of the following criteria: (1) Published in a core Chinese journal or a journal included in the China Scientific and Technical Papers and Citations Database (CSTPCD); (2) Evaluated as a "top" or "first-class" paper according to the MUST "Classification Principles for the Evaluation of Academic Papers"; (3) For papers not meeting the above criteria, they may be reviewed and recommended by the supervisor, and evaluated and recognized by the Faculty Academic Committee as equivalent to the above standards. The doctoral dissertation should be written based on the research content and should comprise no less than 60,000 Chinese words or 40,000 English words (excluding references, acknowledgments, appendices, tables, and figures), and the dissertation defense must be completed. The format must comply with the university’s "Graduate Thesis Writing Guidelines" and relevant degree thesis regulations. 6. The doctoral dissertation must pass both the review process and the oral defense.

Learning Time

The duration for taking all courses is 12 months and the duration of dissertation composition is 24 months.

Qualifications of Graduation

Upon approval from the Senate of the University, a Doctoral Degree will be conferred on a student when he or she has: 1. Completed and met the requirements prescribed in the study plan of his or her program within the specific study period, and achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above (excluding dissertation). 2. Abided by the regulations of the University. 3. Cleared all fees and charges and returned all University’s property and equipment borrowed.
